  4:10, Thursday, 20th October, 2022. Micheal died. He had this cancer thing. So I hope he was not in too much pain and passed by before too much suffering! I mean medically, perhaps it is impossible but I still hope it was not too much for him! Then again...who can actually define for us, how-much is too-much? I have not been around Micheal that much. But I always hear and see him in pictures and updates from Borhan, Lira.  He was their pet.  I was with him only once.   For a couple of days . He was that one giant, gleeful beast, that just staying around him will make your world all bubbly. I have never felt so much warmth even from a human! First time when I met Micheal, I did not imagine he would be that big. When he came running to me, I literally got scared and run out! People say, dogs are demanding. Certainly, every soul adores flowers, that's one thing.  But an entire market dedicated to selling flowers separately?   Until I went to visit one of the largest flower market in Calcutta during my first India trip. On my 2nd day of India-trip, my host told me  "Buckle up, let's go for a little walk and show you one of the largest flower markets!" All I could think at that moment is  "Such a boring plan! What is there to see in a flower market!"  Did I come all the way from another country, to visit a flower market!? Until I saw the fascinating demonstration of that light word! Stars and skies! I was literally bewildered by experiencing the massive level of business standard of the MERE flower market and its demand! For one second think that you are unaware of such existence. কোলকাতায় জোড়াসাঁকোর ঠাকুর বাড়িতে ঢোকার পর থেকেই আমি হন্যে হয়ে কাদম্বরীর ছায়া খুঁজে বেড়াচ্ছিলাম।  দ্বারকানাথ লেনের মাথায়, ঠাকুর বাড়ির গলি যেখানে শুরু হয় কাদম্বরীর প্রতি এমন দুর্নিবার আকর্ষণ শুনে মনে হতে পারে যে  সে বুঝি আমার খুবই পছন্দের ব্যক্তি। আদপে তা কিন্তু একদম নয়। এই নারীকে যে আমার খুব একটা ভালো লাগে তা নয়। তবে ভালো মন্দ লাগার উর্ধ্বে, সে আমার একটা নিখাঁদ কৌতুহলের জায়গা। আমি জানিনা কেনো ঠাকুরবাড়ির সবকিছু ছাপিয়ে এই বিতর্কিত রমণীকে নিয়েই আমার প্রবল আগ্রহ। তাই আজ যখন অবশেষে জোড়াসাঁকো স্বচক্ষে দেখার সৌভাগ্য হলো, অন্দরমহলে প্রবেশের পর থেকে আমি সাহিত্য, শিল্প, সংরক্ষিত দস্তাবেজ সবকিছুতে খুঁটিয়ে কেবল কাদম্বরীকে খুঁজছিলাম।  হতাশ হয়ে দেখলাম পরিবার পরিজনের বিশাল ব্যপ্তিময় এই সম্ভারে... "কাদম্বরী এসেছে শুধু জ্যোতি ঠাকুরের সাথে যখন তার বৌ হিসাবে না এলেই না, তখন!"  শ'খানেক দলিল দস্তাবেজ আর নানাবিধ উপস্থাপনার মাঝে কাদম্বরীকে খুঁজে পেয়েছি মাত্র দু'জাগায়। এক তাদের পারিবারিক ব্যপ্তির গাছে, জ্যোতি'র বৌ হিসাবে ছোট ছোট করে, আর দুই এক পারিবারিক ছবিতে সেও জ্যোতি'র শোভা বাড়াতেই...

    ঠাকুরনগরে আমার দিনগুলো কেটেছে একদম গ্রীষ্মের ঝিম মারা মধ্য দুপুরের মতই। এসছিলাম বিদেশ ভ্রমণে। কিসের ঘোরাঘুরি আর কিসের ফটোগ্রাফি। বেড়ালের মতো উম পেয়ে বাড়িতে বসেই কেটেছে বেলা। সকাল বেলা উঠার তাড়া নেই। বেলা করে উঠো কিন্তু কারো চেঁচামেচি নেই। বান্টিদা গ্রামের বাড়িতেও একখানা জবরদস্ত এসি লাগানোয় ঠাঠানো গরমেও বেলা ১১ট/১২টা অব্দি চুটিয়ে ঘুমোনো যায়। তারপর আসে দাদার বানানো চোস্ত ব্রেকফাস্ট। খেয়ে ঢেকুর তুলতেই কড়া একটা চা। বিড়ি ফুঁকতে ফুঁকতে ঘরের দাওয়ায় বসে হাওয়া খেতে খেতে কোকিলের কু-উ ডাকের সাথে পাল্লা দিয়ে ডাকতে থাকা আমি আর পিচ্চি ফেরু! আমি শুধু শুধুই এংজাইটিতে ভুগছিলাম যে আমি যেমন অপ্রতিভ জবুথবু মানুষ, অচেনা দেশ, অচেনা মানুষ কিভাবে চলবো, মিশবো! কিন্তু দেখা গেলো বৌদি ভাই খুবই স্বতস্ফুর্ত লোক। আমার সাথে মিলে যায় ষোলোআনা। ঠাকুরনগর একেবারেই শান্ত নিরবিলি একটা গ্রাম। মূলত আবার গ্রাম বলে আধুনিকতা থেকে পিছিয়ে নেই কিছুতে। যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা হোক বা চলা ফেরা খাওয়াদাওয়ায়। গ্রামের যে পাশটায় বান্টিদারা থাকে, ওটা মূলত ক্যাথলিক কমিউনিটির অংশ। এমনকি মাঝ রাত্তিরে পিৎজ্জা খেতে চাইলেও তার অসুবিধে নেই। ...
